texttool compares documents, scans for duplicate phrases, checks one document for practical AI markers, or reads text aloud locally in your browser.
Tool Modes
- Comparison: highlights inserted, deleted, and replaced text across Original (A) and Changed (B).
- Duplicates: scans text for duplicate phrases; A to B Duplicates searches Changed (B) for phrases from Original (A).
- AI Markers: scans Original (A) for hidden Unicode artifacts, assistant-like phrases, vocabulary clusters, patterns, and formatting clues. These are indicators, not proof.
- Read: loads one document, uses local browser/OS text-to-speech when available, shows a reading ruler, and can show a silent speed-reader panel. Read is currently beta.
Comparison Modes
- Line: fastest, best for broad structural changes, less exact inside sentences.
- Word: default, best for documents and paragraphs.
- Char.: most granular, useful for small edits, punctuation, and spelling changes.
- Ignore Case / Punct.: optionally ignore capitalization or punctuation differences during Comparison.
AI Markers
- Use AI Markers to scan one document for practical indicators such as invisible Unicode characters, assistant metacomments, em dash patterns, vocabulary clusters, repeated rhetorical forms, and formatting artifacts.
- The Show checkboxes control which marker categories are visible in the document, heatmap, and sidebar. Cmd/Ctrl-click a checkbox to customize the individual items in that category.
- Click Paste text or drop a file, or click here for an example in Original (A) to load a sample marker test and scan it.
- AI Markers runs locally and reports indicators only. It does not prove AI use.
Read
- Read mode uses Original (A) only and runs locally. Browser speechSynthesis uses voices installed or exposed by the browser/operating system.
- The speed slider runs from 60-1600 WPM. Audio follows only up to the browser/voice support limit; above that, the speed-reader panel keeps going visually without audio.
- The panel setting shows 1-20 words at a time. Use Audio to mute speech while keeping visual reading active.
- PDFs can be previewed, highlighted in multiple colors, annotated with notes, cached, and exported as an annotated copy. The original local file is not overwritten.
Double Clicks
- Scrollbar Heatmap: collapse or expand the Changes panel.
